A packed house of over 500 turned out last night to watch the final of the Miss Manistee Queen pageant. When the final tables were released, Jo Ann Knight of Manistee was crowned by Mayor Ray Wissner in a dramatic end to the program. Queen’s runner-up was Karen Lee Orsick who will reign in Manistee National Forest Festival activities if statewide commitments from Knight prevent her from attending local functions.

River Street Fire

City firefighters were called to put out a grass fire in a vacant lot east of the Michigan Tool Co. factory on East River Street at 3:55 p.m. yesterday. The smoldering fire was caused by sparks, firefighters said. Return of firefighters and equipment to the station at 4:30 p.m.
