A West Shore family is raising money to help 52 needy women get the work clothes and personal hygiene items needed to help them get back into the workforce.

Kim Campbell and her daughters Cassandra and Megan are collecting donations for non-profit organization Wear 2 Start in Victoria, with the aim of raising enough donations to help one woman a week next year.

That means they need 52 new pairs of black leggings, new or lightly used work clothes for women, deodorant sticks and toothbrushes, and at least $2,600 in cash donations.

“Earlier this year I was reflecting on myself since I had COVID and was on the couch. I’m turning 50 this year and I think how lucky I am with all the support my family and I have received over the years,” Campbell said. “A few months later I was talking to my parents and they reminded me of how they were both raised by single mothers. .. and I told my daughters, it would be great if we could give back to women who need that little bit extra. help they couldn’t get in the 1940s and 50s.

So they started looking for organizations and causes looking for support that matched their desire to help women in the community.

They found this organization a perfect fit for Wear 2 Start, drawing inspiration from the success stories staff and customers shared with them, and began their fundraising efforts on July 8.

“We sat down with them and asked them what they needed and how we could bring them the most value, and we started to see what we could do to help them. We really like doing what we can for the local community, and it really seemed like a good cause.

In addition to an online crowdfunding campaign they launched to collect cash donations, they set up donation bins at the Colwood Back to Back Chiropractic and Ginger Group salon in Victoria. The main giving event takes place on July 23 at Boulder House in Langford from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“Every little bit will help and we are very grateful for the support we have received so far from businesses and the community,” Campbell said.
