EAST ROCKAWAY, NY – Lisa Ruiz has announced her retirement after nine years as superintendent of the East Rockaway School District.

Ruiz is 42 years as an educator, including seven years as an assistant superintendent at Merrick before moving to East Rockaway.

His retirement was given at the district education board meeting on November 16.

“It has truly been an exceptional experience for me to work with administrators, staff, faculty and families, and most importantly, our students, to make progress in our educational programs, capital improvements and community relations, ”Ruiz said in his retirement letter. . “Together, we have been able to accomplish a great deal in the advancement of our students and our community.”

During his tenure at East Rockaway, Ruiz increased the percentage of students attending college; Increased offerings of Advanced Placement and dual enrollment college courses, the district said.

She provided leadership to reshape the district’s values, vision and goals, as well as the development and implementation of its five-year strategic plan.

“East Rockaway is a very caring, unique and dedicated community that exemplifies what it means to be cared for and supported, especially during this most difficult time for our schools,” she said.

Ruiz’s retirement takes effect on June 30, 2022.
