Brevard Public Schools selected Blair Lovelace of Coquina Elementary School as Principal of the Year and Kelly Grugan of Riviera Elementary School as Vice Principal of the Year. They will now represent Brevard Public Schools in the state level Principal and Vice Principal of the Year awards competition.

BREVARD COUNTY, FL – Brevard Public Schools has selected Blair Lovelace of Coquina Elementary School as Principal of the Year and Kelly Grugan of Riviera Elementary School as Vice Principal of the Year. They will now represent Brevard Public Schools in the state level Principal and Vice Principal of the Year awards competition.

Other finalists included Edgewood Jr./Sr. manager Jackie Ingratta. High School, and Heather Smith, Vice-Principal of Viera High School.

“These principals and vice-principals have launched initiatives to improve student performance and promote safe learning environments, often by partnering with parents and community members,” said Brevard Public Schools Superintendent. , Dr. Mark Mullins.

“They exemplify the different areas of leadership found in the Florida Principal Standard.”

Lovelace has been Principal of Coquina Elementary School since 2017. Since taking on the role of Principal, she has raised the school’s grade from a ‘D’ to a ‘B’. Her letter of appointment stated: “Mrs. Lovelace has worked tirelessly to improve education for all students.

She is relentlessly focused on student data. She trained her teachers to not only know their data, but to use it effectively to plan and improve instruction. »

Grugan has been an assistant principal at Riviera Elementary for five years.

The Brevard Public School principal described her dedication, saying, “Mrs. Grugan is a go-getter with a can-do attitude… When data showed particular weakness at the grade level, Ms. Grugan worked diligently to develop a plan with teachers to improve student performance while providing feedback and support to ensure the success of the plan. ”

Lovelace and Grugan will be recognized at an upcoming school board meeting and will go for state-level interviews.
