Asaduddin Owaisi, MP and Chairman of All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), visits Vijayapura to campaign for party candidates in corporate polls

Asaduddin Owaisi, MP and Chairman of All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen, visited Vijayapura on Tuesday, October 25 to campaign for his party’s candidates in the municipal elections.

He addressed a rally and met with local leaders in the evening. AIMIM presents four candidates in the municipal elections for 35 districts.

At the rally, the MP criticized calls by some BJP leaders to boycott halal meat, describing it as an attempt to target minorities through no fault of their own. He also claimed that this boycott call is a plot to earn illicit money by special interests.

“Do you know that some BJP leaders collect money from traders to enable them to continue their Halal activities? I have video evidence to back up my claims,” he said.

He chastised BJP leaders like Vijayapura MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal for his “hate filled speeches against Muslims”. “I don’t understand why leaders like Mr. Yatnal keep referring to Pakistan in all their speeches. We don’t do that. But surprisingly, several BJP leaders, like Mr. Yatnal, continue to do so. It is because they love this country very much. I think Prime Minister Narendra Modi taught him how to do it. Mr. Yatnal should explain why he does it so often,” he said.

Sab Ka Saath, Sab Ka Vikas is just a slogan for Mr. Modi and his party. He does not care about the welfare of minorities. Muslims live under constant threat of harassment, assault, insult and intimidation in Mr. Modi’s India. The food, beard and cap of Muslims are under threat under the BJP regime,” he said.

He criticized Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai for failing to follow up on allegations of 40% commission in government contracts. “There have been several corruption complaints, but the BJP government led by Mr. Bommai has not ordered an investigation into these allegations. It is Mr. Bommai’s responsibility to end the commission culture in Karnataka,” he said.

At a press conference, he clarified that his party would not form a coalition with any Karnataka party in the near future. “There have been attempts like this in the past. The leader of Janata Dal (secular) HD Kumaraswamy had met the Chief Minister of Telangana and formed an alliance. I was asked to campaign for the JD(S) in certain seats, and I did. But this arrangement no longer exists. This time we are fighting all the polls independently,” Owaisi said.

He dismissed claims that AIMIM’s pro-Muslim stance and related political activities help the BJP consolidate its electoral base.

“Some Congress leaders said that AIMIM is the B team of BJP. This is false and meaningless. We are an independent party and we use our own political strategy for the benefit of the party and the country. We don’t ‘need no advice from Congress. Congressional leaders should put their house in order rather than commenting on us. They should ensure that incidents such as dissent and infighting in the Rajasthan don’t breed again. It was because of the weak leadership of Congress leaders like Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi that the BJP won a second term. If the Congress is in this state, it is because of these leaders’ ‘, did he declare.
