Owensboro Catholic Schools has announced that George Powell will become the next principal of Owensboro Catholic High School, effective July 1, 2023.

“I’m very humbled and honored (to be selected),” Powell said. “I look forward to becoming more involved in the faith formation and education of our young people.”

Powell has nearly 25 years of experience in the education field, including 6 as a teacher at Owensboro Middle School; 5 as senior associate director in a secondary school; and 6 social studies and English teachers. Powell is currently Director of Student Services for Owensboro Public Schools; position he has held since 2016.

“George will make an excellent leader for OCHS,” said Keith Osborne, superintendent of Owensboro Catholic Schools. “His unwavering faith, the breadth and depth of his knowledge and experience, and his passion for helping students succeed will help families at OCHS move forward to even greater accomplishments! We are thrilled to have the caliber of the person as George follows the excellent leadership of Gates Settle.

Powell has rank one in student staff, teaching supervision, and school superintendent; Master of Arts in Education; and a Bachelor of Arts; all from Eastern Kentucky University.

Powell and his wife, Amanda, have five children and are parishioners at Immaculate Parish in Owensboro.
