DANBURY, Conn. (06/07/22) – First-year student Eliza Filus was named Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Softball Rookie of the Year, while Head Coach Margie Acker was selected the ECAC Division III Softball Coach of the Year as the Kean University softball team earned three All-ECAC selections. Filus was named to the first team, while Gabrielle Fredette and Karly Messina both received honorable mention.

Filus was named rookie of the year and earned her first All-ECAC selection after hitting .397 with 60 hits, 50 RBIs, 38 runs, 16 doubles, 15 stolen bases, seven home runs and three triples. The rookie posted a .682 hitting percentage and .414 on-base percentage in 42 games as he was named a first-team NFCA All-American selection.

Acker earns his second ECAC Coach of the Year honor after winning the award in 2019. Acker has guided the Cougars to 32 wins and appearances in the NJAC Tournament and NCAA Regional Championships. Kean had six All-NJAC selections, including Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year, five All-Region selections and one All-American. Acker was also named NJAC Co-Coach of the Year and NFCA Region IV Coaching Staff Member of the Year.

Fredette earns his first All-ECAC selection after hitting .379 with 47 hits, 35 runs, 27 RBIs, 14 stolen bases, six doubles, four home runs and three triples. The senior posted a .573 hitting percentage and .506 on-base percentage in 42 games as she was named NJAC Player of the Year and an NFCA All-Region pick.

Messina earns its first All-ECAC selection after going .310 with 40 hits, 35 RBIs, 16 runs scored, 12 doubles, nine stolen bases and one home run. In the circle, Messina posted a 2.19 ERA with 20 strikeouts and was 5-1 in 38 1/3 innings pitched. The second posted a .426 hitting percentage and .345 on-base percentage as she was named an All-NJAC selection.
